What is meant by “integrated preparatory classes”?
It is a cycle of preparatory classes particular to a school or a group of schools. In the case of CPE Lyon, the preparatory classes are particular to the school.
CPE Lyon preparatory classes are state contracted and are managed by the Lycée des Chartreux, associated with the Université Catholique de Lyon and the Fondation Scientifique de Lyon et du Sud-Est.
Admission follows a baccalaureate, for engineer course, as part of the 5 years:
- 2 Years of integrated preparatory classes
- 3 years of the engineer course and finally the diploma!
- The move from the CPE Lyon preparatory classes to the engineer course is on the basis of continuous assessment.
CPE Lyon preparatory class programme that follows that of classic grands écoles preparatory classes.
Around 200 places are available every year.
Where are the CPE Lyon preparatory classes held?
The site is in the heart of the historic centre of the town in the Fourvière district, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site:

Registration procedure
Applications go through the FESIC selection procedure (Concours Puissance 11, www.concourspuissance11.fr) aimed at:
- Students in their last year of a science baccalaureate
- Those that have passed a baccalaureate less than one year ago
Candidates must be aged under 19 years of age on 1 January of the year of application.
The schools select students on the basis of the application form and a written examination (questionnaires with automatic marking); and the academic file as they see fit.

In the field of chemistry Integrated Preparatory Classes - Fédération Gay-Lussac
Almost all the schools of chemistry in the Fédération Gay-Lussac offer a specific system of “Fédération Gay-Lussac Integrated Preparatory Classes" for the group of schools. These classes have a much more chemistry focused programme. They have existed in Rennes and Lille for several years. It should be noted that from the start of the 2008 academic year a new class will be opening in Clermont-Ferrand.
Admission to these classes is subject to an examination of the applicants’ academic files.
6 places are offered every academic year at CPE Lyon in year 3 (1st year of the engineering course) to students coming from Fédération Gay-Lussac integrated classes.
