Visits of two japanese researchers
Since last year, we have been visited by two Japanese researchers, on July 3rd last year by Dr. Yoshihiro MIHARA from Hokkaido University of Science and on January 12th this year by Dr. Daisuke NISHIDA from Tokai University.
Dr. MIHARA researched the absorption of pollutants in water using an algae-based gel at the University of Lyon 1 since March this year. At the beginning of his visit, he was welcomed by our Japanese teachers Michie SUGAWARA and Shima SUNAOSHI, we showed Mr. MIHARA around in our various laboratories. In the organic chemistry laboratory, Mr. MIHARA met Mr. Cameron TYSON from the University Georgia Tech in Atlanta, who was conducting various experiments with his students as part of the summer school.
During the visit of our biotechnology laboratory Mr. MIHARA could discuss with Alison ONSTINE – also from the University Georgia Tech – about the fascinating properties of silkworms. Furthermore, our laboratory assistant Sana DJEGHDIR explained the various laboratory equipment. Finally, we visited the robotics laboratory, where Raphaël LEBER and Fabrice JUMEL gave us an insight into their work.
Dr. NISHIDA conducted neurological research at the “Lyon 1 Neuroscience Research Center” until March this year. During his visit we had a brief exchange in the office of our Director of International Relations, Maxime Jorrot, with our two Japanese language teachers Michie LAISNEY and Shima SUNAOSHI, we visited the analytical sciences lab during the lessons of our students in our new full English degree “European Biology and Sustainability”.
The lab lessons were conducted by Benoit MARTELAT and Christine CLOZEL. We made a detour to the office of our former Director of CPE Lyon, Gerard PIGNAULT and finished the visit in our robotics lab. There Raphaël LEBER explained us the robotics projects that are currently being carried out by our students.
We thank Dr. MIHARA and Dr. NISHIDA for their visit and hope to work well together in the future.
Celebration of the Japanese Emperor’s birthday
The Japanese Consulate in Lyon hosted a reception celebrating the Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan at Hôtel Dieu on February 24th. Our director of International Relations, Maxime JORROT, and internship placement coordinator, Daniela PALANDRE, were invited to the event.
After a welcome addressed by the former Japanese consul Osamu OGATA and his wife, the event was officially opened by a singer who performed the Japanese and French national anthems.
Several Japanese companies presented themselves and we had interesting discussions about internship opportunities for our students.
