Summer school programme

Summer school organized by Institut Polytechnique de Lyon (IPL)


The Institut Polytechnique de Lyon (IPL) “International Summer School” programme gives you the chance to experience the French higher education environment and learn or improve French language skills while discovering the beautiful city of Lyon.
It is also the opportunity to meet other university students from around the world and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
It is designed for undergraduate students in Science and Engineering who have completed their first or second year of study.

This programme consists of French language classes in different levels, science/engineering classes to be chosen from one of 4 engineering schools: CPE Lyon, ECAM Lyon, ISARA Lyon, ITECH.

  • Students also take part in industrial and cultural visits
  • 45-60 hours of class, laboratory work and group projects (6 ECTS. European Credit Transfer System)
  • 39 hours of French classes (3 ECTS)

In 2020, CPE Lyon chemistry will meet digital science. The goal of this course will be to enable future chemistry engineers to use digital science in their project management.

Particular emphasis will be given to Big Data (Data Storage and Mining, AI, Machine Learning), Internet of Things (Sensors, Networks, Cybersecurity) and the impact of Industry 4.0 on chemical engineering.

Next summer school : June 11, 2020 to July 15, 2020

  • BEST Programme (Biomolecular Engineering, Science and Technology Study Abroad Programme):

For several years, during May, June and July, CPE Lyon receives a group of around 45 American students and a few professors from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta (https://www.gatech.edu/) and offers a scientific and cultural programme.

The Best Programme is an externalization of practical work in chemistry for these Bachelor students. A few of them also follow biology courses and others learn French.

2020 session: from May 14th until July 15th

Cultural programme: Guided tour of Vieux Lyon – Visit of the Lumière Museum – Excursion in Ardèche – Visit of the CERN and United Nations – Discovery of the Beaujolais vineyards – Visit of the Curie Museum in Paris
