The Institut Polytechnique de Lyon (IPL) “International Summer School” programme gives you the chance to experience the French higher education environment and learn or improve French language skills while discovering the beautiful city of Lyon.
It is also the opportunity to meet other university students from around the world and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
It is designed for undergraduate students in Science and Engineering who have completed their first or second year of study.
This programme consists of French language classes in different levels, science/engineering classes to be chosen from one of 4 engineering schools: CPE Lyon, ECAM Lyon, ISARA Lyon, ITECH.
- Students also take part in industrial and cultural visits
- 45-60 hours of class, laboratory work and group projects (6 ECTS. European Credit Transfer System)
- 39 hours of French classes (3 ECTS)
The program is designed for undergraduate students in Science
and Engineering who have completed their first or second year of
study and who expect to major in one of the disciplines of the
four IPL engineering schools.
At CPE Lyon, the teaching program is about “Computer Science for Engineers”. The goal of this course is to enable future engineers to use digital science in their work.
Particular emphasis will be given to data science (data storage and Mining, AI, Machine Learning, data analysis), Internet of Things (Sensors, Networks, Cybersecurity), fundamentals of programming, and the impact of Industry 4.0.

BEST Programme “Biomolecular Engineering, Science and Technology (BESTE) Study Abroad Program”:
For several years, from May to July, CPE Lyon has been welcoming a group of approximately 60 American undergraduate students, along with several faculty members, from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta (https://www.gatech.edu/), for a scientific and cultural program.
The BEST Program is designed as an off-campus delivery of laboratory-based practical work in chemistry and life sciences for Bachelor-level students. In addition to these core activities, participants may enroll in complementary scientific courses and have the opportunity to take French language classes.
2026 session: from May 13th until July 11th
New since 2024: Practical sessions in biology (working on silkworms), and a new course titled ‘Cooking, Chemistry, and Senses’.
Cultural programme: Guided tour of Vieux Lyon – Visit of the Confluences Museum – Visit of the CERN and United Nations – Week-end in Paris :
